What's Isotopes of Tungsten? - Interesting Facts of Tungsten

From Zhenghua, CTIA, Xiamen, China   Published on Thursday, 16 Jun 2022 19:09 Hits:

Natural tungsten is composed of four stable isotopes (182w, 183w, 184w and 186w) and a long-lived radioisotope (180W). Theoretically, all five isotopes can be borrowed from α Decay to element No. 72 hafnium, but only observed in 180W, with a half-life of (1.8 ± 0.2) × 1018. On average, 180W per gram occurs twice a year α Decay. Other isotopes have not been observed to decay naturally, so their half-life is at least 4 × 1021.

More than 30 kinds of artificial radioisotopes of tungsten have been confirmed, among which the most stable are 181w with a half-life of 121.2 days, 185w with a half-life of 75.1 days, 188w with a half-life of 69.4 days, 178w with a half-life of 21.6 days and 187w with a half-life of 23.72 hours. The remaining radioisotopes have a half-life of no more than three hours, most of which are less than eight minutes. Tungsten also has 11 isomers, of which the most stable is 179mw with a half-life of 6.4 minutes.
